Google announced their new social platform: Buzz this week, to lots of media erm…buzz. It fits neatly into Gmail and with typically easy to use image & video features and a neat location specific mobile web app (not to mention Google’s monstrous size & leverage), it looks set to rival Twitter & Facebook.
As Chris Crum at WebProNews mentioned in a very comprehensive article, there are some additional opportunities available for webmasters in the way of SEO:
1) Buzz posts get indexed by search from the page they’re posted to, so a comment could appear in SERPs that way
2) The liklihood is that Buzz updates will appear in social search
…so at a basic level, it’s worth getting links to your articles ‘advertised’ in that way. As per my article about autoposting, I’d like to see a feature in Posterous or a WordPress plugin that makes adding a synopsis and link back to articles on your website possible without any additional effort. In theory this should be possible in the future with an API exposed at Google Code, but I’ve not seen anything just yet. I have found a couple of other interesting WordPress Plugins that allow for interaction with Buzz though:
Google Buzz ER: Show your Google Buzz post on your WordPress site. Just set you username and place where you want your Google Buzz posts to be shown.
Simple Buzz: Simply displays to the visitor the last Google Buzz status updates of a Google user.
Google Buzz Button: Share your posts or pages and let other share that on their buzz account through Google Buzz Button.
